Areas of Focus
These areas of focus are aligned with the 17 Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations, which aim to end poverty, protect the planet, and improve everyone’s lives and expand their possibilities.
When our members take action in these areas, they are collaborating with people around the world to address the significant challenges we face today. And having areas of focus that are aligned with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals provides a common language used by others in these fields, which helps us communicate with our partners and the communities we work with.
The vision for each area of focus
Peacebuilding and conflict prevention: Rotary envisions a world where global societies better prevent and recover from conflict and conditions exist where human potential can be realized.
Water, sanitation, and hygiene: Rotary envisions a water-secure world where all people have access to the safe water they need, where governments, service providers, and civil society organizations are committed to providing locally led, sustainable, and climate-resilient WASH services, and where they have the ability and resources to do so.
Global health (disease prevention and treatment, and maternal and child health): Rotary envisions a world where clubs and members collaborate with health providers to address preventable and treatable causes of illness and death while promoting equitable access to health care for all.
Basic education and literacy: Rotary envisions a more equitable and just world in which all children and adults have access to quality education and lifelong opportunities to learn numeracy and literacy skills.
Community economic development: Rotary envisions sustainable economic opportunities for people who are living in poverty, young people, women, refugees, people with disabilities, and other underserved communities.
Environment: Rotary envisions acting locally and globally, using evidence to sustainably address shared environmental issues and foster harmony between people and nature.
